"Having picked up a copy of Paracosms at MegaCon, it is easy to see the influence that Calvin & Hobbes has on the two short stories, "It" and "The Floor is Lava." Each eight-page story tells a serious tale, the first telling the need to take an identity forced upon one's self and make someone else take the mantle, with the second telling the fight to survive against all odds - only to find out in the last two pages that the preceding six pages were merely the playful imaginations of children, taking simple games that children play and turning them into real-life drama. Enkerud's dialogue and captions are minimal, but pointed, but Miller is able with his sequential art to tell the story effectively, build up the suspense in just six short black and white pages, providing a great payoff with two full-color pages. The comic is a great read and definitely suggested for comic fans who want something fun to read for a change - Paracosms is proof that comics don't have to be bogged down with doom and gloom to be a great read!"
